The Logo Mojo

Imagine cruising down a desert road, famished. You are in the mood for a burger and unless it is made out of desert grass, you are not getting any soon. Suddenly you see a mirage over the endless sand. It is not of burgers or fries but of….yes, the Golden Arches! McDonald’s has made the arches so popular that they are integrated with any thought of a burger. The same goes for Nike’s swoosh, Apple’s apple, the Michelin tire man, Audi’s interlaced rings, WWF’s panda, Starbuck’s two tailed mermaid, Mercedes’s 3 pointed star or Mont Blanc’s 6 pointed white star. A recent award winning ad show the influence logos have over us and how well we identify them with products. The ad campaign by itself was for illiteracy but their appearance and especially their logos seem like promotions for entirely different products. Be careful when deciding your company logo, for it will be what the world thinks of when they regard your product. If it is not something remarkable, it might be time for you to start rethinking it.
